The Haitian Times, a publication mainly for immigrants and descendants of immigrants from that Caribbean isle, recently charged that the media are singing out both Brooklyn Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn and Mayor Eric Adams for criticism in the same way that they attacked then-Mayor David Dinkins in the 1990s.

The author of the article, Garry Pierre-Pierre, says that the media has singled out Bichotte Hermelyn, who is also chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, for attack whenever her husband, political allies and even political enemies become newsworthy — “even when there is little, if any, meaningful connection to her.”

Pierre-Pierre also doesn’t rule out legitimate criticism of Bichotte-Hermelyn, but says that when he has criticized the Democratic leader, it was “specific and direct” as well as constructive, rather than being an all-out attack.

As far as Adams is concerned, he points out that last year, his residency in Brooklyn was questioned, and Adams had to give the media a tour of his home in the borough to prove his residency. “This was reminiscent of Trump forcing Barack Obama to show his birth certificate to prove that he was born in the United States,” he says.
