GRAVESEND — APPROXIMATELY 150 RESIDENTS OF THE MARLBORO HOUSES received care packages of fresh produce and kitchen staples during a food giveaway at the NYCHA housing complex that Assemblymember William Colton organized.
Wednesday’s giveaway was held in front of the Marlboro Houses Resident Association’s office, within Colton’s district. The Pakistani American Youth Organization supplied the food, and its members, alongside the resident association members and Colton’s office staff helped distribute the food.
PAYO gets much of the food it distributes from a network of retailers which find themselves with excess food. Wednesday’s distribution included potatoes, apples and onions, as well as canned food, and staples like rice and beans.
Thanking PAYO for its contribution and pledging to sponsor more food drives, Colton said, “In this time of rampant inflation, when so many people are struggling to afford basic necessities, events such as this one are particularly important.”
