CITYWIDE — THE NEW YORK STATE Department of Environmental Conservation on Friday issued an updated Air Quality Health Advisory for fine particulate matter in New York City air through Saturday until 11:59 p.m., due to the impact of smoke from wildfires in Canada. The fires have been bringing hazy skies and spikes in smoke-related pollution to the city.
Air quality will be in the “red” zone Saturday, at roughly 160 on a scale of 0-400, meaning “very unhealthy.” More information can be found at AirNow.gov.
The city is making available free KN95 masks at hundreds of Brooklyn, Queens and New York Public Library locations, plus all NYPD precincts, nine FDNY firehouses, four major transit hubs and at events. Find mask pickup locations using the city’s Mask Distribution Site map.
