BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — THE MACY’S FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS this year will take place in both the lower East River near the Brooklyn Bridge and the South Street Seaport District; and the lower Hudson River, in celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday, according to a press release from the company.
Macy’s will concurrently celebrate another milestone: the 50th anniversary of its Fourth of July fireworks tradition. The festivities begin at 8 p.m., with NBC and Peacock broadcasting them live nationwide. An encore presentation of the show will also air at 10 p.m. on NBC. Additionally, a Spanish language simulcast will air on Telemundo from 8-10 p.m.
The store has also launched a series of promotional sweepstakes and prize events leading up to the Thanksgiving Day Parade, this year on Nov. 26.
Macy’s was originally established in 1858 as a dry goods store on 14th Street and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan — a quarter-century before the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge. Macy’s moved to its current Herald Square location in 1902 and two decades later had become the largest store in the world, according to a brand-heritage history timeline. Macy’s took over Downtown Brooklyn’s famed Abraham & Straus store in 1995.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park. I continue to be amazed at the serene hideaways that the city offers in some of the busiest places — and, still, with an iconic view.”
