DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — THE KINGS COUNTY Supreme Courts’ Civil and Criminal Divisions commemorated Law Day the afternoon of May 4 at 360 Adams St. in the Central Jury Room.
Hon. Rowan Wilson, chief judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, delivered the keynote address. Hon. Wavny Toussaint was the honorary speaker. The theme of this year’s Law Day, hosted by Administrative Judges Genine Edwards and Matthew D’Emic, was “The Rule of Law and the American Dream.” This annual celebration is both a civic observance and a legal community event, bringing together judges, lawyers, students and the public to reflect on the rule of law in everyday life.
Wilson, who has served as chief judge of New York since 2023, was the first African American to hold that position. He was previously appointed as an associate judge of the Court of Appeals in 2017. As chief judge, Wilson not only leads the Court of Appeals but also oversees the entire Unified Court System
