FULTON FERRY — ONE LANE OF the Staten Island-bound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in the Fulton Ferry area will be closed for four upcoming weekends, likely starting mid-to-late May, the New York City Department of Transportation said in a release. The work will continue the rehabilitation of the southbound BQE deck over Old Fulton Street, and will take place in four stages.
Over the first weekend, DOT workers will be completing the preparation for a new concrete deck. This will require the closure of one lane along with the ongoing closure of the shoulder, and traffic will be pushed to a single lane. The work was originally scheduled to begin on April 11, but the start date has been pushed back, DOT said. The exact weekend will be announced closer to the date.
“We are pushing DOT to craft a plan that addresses neighborhood congestion during these lane closures,” Councilmember Lincoln Restler said in his March 24 newsletter. “DOT will have Traffic Enforcement Agents stationed at key locations and construction liaisons on site to address issues as they arise.”
