SUNSET PARK – BROOKLYN GIRL SCOUTS met up with food rescue org City Harvest on Friday morning to distribute boxes of Girl Scout cookies at the nonprofit’s Sunset Park Mobile Market distribution center, handing out sweets and nutritious food to families in need ahead of Valentine’s Day. The Mobile Market typically serves more than 1,000 households in the neighborhood.
The Girl Scouts this year have helped donate more than 30,000 boxes of cookies to City Harvest through their “Gift of Caring” program, which allows cookie customers to purchase boxes directly for local charities. The scouts expect that number to double by the end of cookie season.
“At its core, City Harvest is about neighbors helping neighbors. The Girl Scouts have exemplified that spirit with this donation, supporting the 1 in 6 New Yorkers—including 1 in 4 NYC children— [who] does not always know where their next meal will come from,” City Harvest CEO Jilly Stephens wrote in a press statement.
