EAST FLATBUSH — A CAR MAKING A TURN jumped the curb at an East Flatbush intersection and struck a 79-year-old woman on the sidewalk, killing her at the scene, police said. The incident took place at at East 92nd Street and Rutland Road on Friday around 1:22 p.m., as a 62-year-old woman driving a 2015 Lexus RX350 made a right turn from Rutland onto southbound East 92 Street and mounted the curb, striking Yvette James and smashing into a building before coming to a stop.
The driver was transported to One Brooklyn Health – Brookdale Hospital Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
James lived a block away from the accident site. The pastor of James’ church, across the street from her home, told abc7 that she had volunteered at its food pantry since 1998.
