BUSHWICK AND CITYWIDE — THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER COMMUNITY MEMBERS WILL PAINT MURALS celebrating New York’s part in hosting the World Cup.
Even though the tournament is over, New York City is creating a legacy through art of its World Cup experience: Community designed murals across all five boroughs in a project that Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Groundswell Community Mural Project initiated earlier this month.
Launched in partnership with the departments of Parks and Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Youth and Community Development, the mural project brings together artists, youth and community members together to transform public spaces into vibrant works of art.
New Yorkers of all ages will be invited to work with lead artists in creating the murals through community paint days at each site. Two of the projects are in Brooklyn, at Callahan-Kelly Playground in Ocean Hill and the Garden Playground in Bushwick/South Williamsburg. Lead Artist Miki Mu will guide the painting at Callahan-Kelly Playground, 2300 Fulton St. Lead Artist Yolande Delius will guide the painting at the Garden Playground, 16 Garden St.
The completed murals will remain as permanent public artwork.
