Prospect Park reveals new sculpture at north entrance: Monuments to Motherhood

PROSPECT PARK — Artist Molly Gochman unveiled on Tuesday her latest installation in her “Monuments to Motherhood” series — a 15-foot tall bronze sculpture honoring caregivers by the north entrance to Prospect Park.
“The two loops are supporting one another and they can’t stand alone,” Gochman said, gesturing to the sculpture’s winding bronze arms that wrap around each other and rest on the grass. “I hope when people enter Prospect Park, they feel embraced [and] feel a hug because that’s the intention I put into it.”
Gochman debuted the piece alongside Prospect Park Alliance President Morgan Monaco and NYC Parks Senior Public Art Coordinator Elizabeth Masella. The trio each gave a statement before the crowd dispersed to get a closer look at Prospect Park’s newest addition.

I continue to be amazed at the serene hideaways that the city offers in some of the busiest places — and, still, with an iconic view.”
