NATIONWIDE — NEW YORK ATTORNEY GENERAL LETITIA JAMES IS CLAIMING A VICTORY in her 19-state coalition lawsuit to halt and reverse the mass firings of federal workers with probationary status, after winning a court order forcing the Trump administration to reinstate the affected workers by this coming Monday, March 17.
The coalition’s lawsuit accused the Trump administration of violating federal law by illegally firing thousands of probationary federal workers without providing advance notice.
The reversal is one of two judicial orders handed down on Thursday: Judge James Bredar of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland handled Attorney General James’ case; moreover, he temporarily restrained the government from carrying out any planned “reductions in force” across the 18 affected agencies affected by his order.
Meanwhile, Judge William H. Alsup of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ordered the Treasury and the Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Defense, Energy and Interior departments to reinstate employees who had been improperly terminated.
Attorney General James also on Thursday led a 20-state coalition in a lawsuit to stop the Trump administration’s dismantling of the Department of Education, after it announced on Tuesday the firing of half the DoE’s workforce with the goal of a “total shutdown.”
