ALBANY — THE MTA HEADS INTO 2025 facing uncertainty after the state Assembly and Senate last week rejected the agency’s $65.4 billion plan to fix and upgrade New York’s mass transit system, Gothamist reports. This presents a setback for MTA Chair Janno Lieber, who called the plan necessary to keep subway, bus and railroad service in good repair. Assembly and Senate leaders cited a funding gap as the stumbling block.
Lieber was notified about the plan’s rejection on Christmas Eve, Gothamist noted — a day before it would have taken effect had Albany leaders let the bill lapse into approval.
