CITYWIDE — EMBATTLED NYC MAYOR ERIC ADAMS announced on Tuesday that he has appointed Chauncey Parker as deputy mayor for public safety and Mona Suazo as assistant deputy mayor for public safety. Parker previously served as deputy commissioner for collaborative policing for NYPD and since 1995, as the executive director of the NY/NJ High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas program. He also previously served as an assistant U.S. attorney in SDNY, as an executive assistant in the Manhattan DA’s Office and as commissioner of the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services.
The mayor had announced the resignation of Parker’s predecessor, former Deputy Mayor Philip Banks, on Oct. 7, amid a swirl of federal and criminal investigations involving Adams and numerous administration officials including Philip Banks’ two brothers: former Schools Chancellor David Banks, who stepped down last week, and consultant Terence Banks. David Banks’ wife, former First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, resigned Oct. 9.
