Cops are searching for a suspect they say attempted to rape a woman in the Bensonhurst area.
Authorities say that on Saturday, February 17 at around 1:20 p.m., the suspect followed a 59-year-old woman inside an apartment building near 17th Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway. As she was walking in her apartment, the man allegedly pushed his way inside and exposed himself.
The man then forced the woman onto her couch and attempted to rape her. When the woman resisted, the man slapped her several times in the face. The woman fought off the suspect and ran out of the apartment. The perp then followed her into the hallway whereupon the woman successfully got back inside her apartment and locked the door.
The suspect fled southbound on 17th Avenue.
The woman was treated at the scene by EMS.
The suspect is described as a light skinned man in his 20s, 5’7” to 6’2”. He was last seen wearing a light colored hooded sweater, a black coat, blue jeans and black sneakers.
