A certified nurse aide was arrested and arraigned on Thursday, August 13 on charges that she repeatedly mistreated a resident at a Brooklyn nursing home, announced Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
According to the attorney general’s office, Mina Maxine Gayle-Campbell, 45, allegedly failed to provide appropriate care to an 82-year-old resident suffering from dementia during a bed bath at Shore View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (2865 Brighton Third Street).
According to court documents, on April 29, Gayle-Campbell – “instead of giving the bed bath in a matter that protected the safety and dignity of the resident” – was captured on video allegedly striking the resident, throwing water his face and using the resident’s own fist to strike him in the face.
“When families make the difficult decision to place the care of their loved ones in the hands of a nursing home, they expect them to be treated with compassion and respect—not abused and mistreated,” Schneiderman said. “My office will continue to prosecute anyone who abuses and mistreats elderly and vulnerable New Yorkers in this way.”
The aide was arraigned on charges of Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the First Degree, a Class E felony, and Willful Violation of Health Laws, a misdemeanor.
