OCEAN PARKWAY — $4 MILLION IN UPGRADES HAVE MADE drastic improvements to the oldest bike path in the country, according to News12 Brooklyn; the five-mile Ocean Parkway Malls bike path, which stretches between Coney Island and Prospect Park, was established in 1894. Originally planned for 2019, the work done on the bike path between avenues R and X began in 2023 and will be complete by the end of the month. Cyclists have pointed out that they can already tell a difference, and have asked for a revamp of the whole path: while rides on the new pavement are smooth, on portions that have not been repaired, significant decay is still present.
“The unpaved section, the roots are coming through and making cracks so you have to be more diligent about how you ride. But over here I could take my phone out and change my music because I didn’t have to worry about swerving through different cracks so a lot more relaxing on the paved side,” said Jorge Sesar, a local cyclist.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park. I continue to be amazed at the serene hideaways that the city offers in some of the busiest places — and, still, with an iconic view.”
