The Brooklyn Bar Association’s Foundation Law Committee is hosting a public forum later this month entitled “Know Your Rights: Police Encounters and Arrests in NYC,” that is free and open to the public.
The hour-and-a-half long program will be hosted by the committee’s chair Fern Finkel and Catherine Gonzalez, an attorney from the Brooklyn Defender Services. The two attorneys will inform attendees of exactly what their rights are during police encounters, and what they should expect if they are taken into police custody.
The program is not worth continuing legal education credit. It is intended purely for the public, although bar association members are often in attendance. In the past, similar programs have been well attended by community leaders, students and people involved in protests.
The event will take place at the Brooklyn Bar Association, 123 Remsen Street, on April 29. Light refreshments and snacks will be served so the bar association requests that anyone interested in attending RSVPs on its website.
