STATEWIDE — GOV. KATHY HOCHUL has named Assemblymember Robert Carroll, a Democrat who represents Park Slope, Kensington and Midwood, to the leadership committee of a panel to study whether New York City and Lake Placid could jointly host a coordinated Winter Olympics using mostly existing venues, and centering on sustainability, fiscal responsibility and community engagement, Carroll announced Monday.
His office released a video laying out why the idea could work: the city possesses high-capacity venues, such as Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center, plus plenty of hotels and an Amtrak hub. Lake Placid is home to world-class winter Olympic venues, and Hochul has invested over $750 million to modernize Olympic Regional Development Authority facilities.
The next open Winter Games is 2042, and the International Olympic Committee awards them more than a decade ahead, so planning needs to start now, Carroll said.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park. I continue to be amazed at the serene hideaways that the city offers in some of the busiest places — and, still, with an iconic view.”
