PROSPECT PARK — INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED UKRAINIAN quartet DakhaBrakha will perform for free as part of BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! on Aug. 7 at the Lena Horne Bandshell. The Kyiv-based quartet’s self-described “ethno-chaos” style blends traditional Ukrainian polyphonic singing with contemporary rhythms, global musical influences and theatrical performance, according to the press release.
The performance also marks the release of the band’s first album in five years, “Ptakh.” The album reflects on the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and embraces the identity, community and resilience of Ukraine.
BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! is a summer cultural event that brings internationally celebrated artists to Prospect Park for free and accessible performances. For more information, visit the website.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park. BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — ‘A miracle that no one was killed …’ That’s what neighbors are saying about the collapse of the Hotel St. George marquee. Shown in this photograph are workmen beginning the removal and repair of the historic, old neon sign at the corner, referencing a relic of Brooklyn Heights’ past: the St. George Hotel.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Overheard in line at one of most popular pastry outlets on Montague Street: “Hope I can get them into a camp …” A mother with two pre-schoolers in tow was showing a friend the Dodge Y flyer for Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18.
