Hinsch’s is getting a new identity.
But don’t worry, all of you ice cream lovers out there, you will still be able to enjoy your sweet treats at the same location.
Hinsch’s, the beloved Bay Ridge eatery where generations of teens sipped egg creams after school, is turning into Stewart’s All American Restaurant, joining a chain that boasts restaurants throughout the entire country.
A new sign was erected outside the old Hinsch’s at 8518 Fifth Ave. on Tuesday afternoon, making the changeover official.
Hinsch’s, which opened in the 1940s but fell on hard times in recent years, was set to close in 2013 when a new owner, Mike Moudatsos, whose family owns several Staten Island diners, bought the ice cream parlor-restaurant.
Moudatsos added the name Mike to the Hinsch’s name creating Mike’s Hinsch’s Diner.
But now, for the second time in less than three years, the restaurant’s name will change again.
Stewart’s Bay Ridge already has a website up and running to handle online orders.

“Stewart’s Root Beer, Floats and All American Fare has been enjoyed by generations for almost a century. Our Restaurants serve Stewart’s Classic Sodas & Floats, Hamburger’s, Hot Dogs and Ice Cream,” a statement on the website reads.
Founded in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1924, Stewart’s All American has more than 300 restaurants across the country.
