DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — INCUMBENT JO ANNE SIMON, who represents New York’s 52nd State Assembly District, which includes parts of Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope and Gowanus, won Tuesday’s primary election against challenger Lydia Green. Simon has occupied the role since 2015.
Green, who is nearing the end of her term as a District Leader for District 52, ran on an anti-establishment platform focused on taxing the rich, housing and climate. Simon, who was a disability civil rights lawyer prior to her political career, ran a re-election campaign focused on affordability, education and climate. She has recently played a major role as a staunch critic of the redevelopment of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal.
The incumbent received 71% of the vote in Tuesday’s primary to hold onto her seat.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park.
