STATEWIDE – THE BROOKLYN DEMOCRATIC Party, led by Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, on Wednesday rescinded its endorsement of Governor Kathy Hochul in this year’s gubernatorial elections, after the governor announced the pick of former City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams for her running mate, reports City and State New York.
According to a statement from the organization, its executive committee made the decision in response to what they described as a snub by the governor in not consulting with its members or informing them of her decision prior to the announcement. Additionally, Bichotte Hermelyn reportedly expressed during a meeting that former Speaker Adams, who represented Queens, was “bad for Brooklyn” during her tenure, a sentiment echoed by others. The party did not endorse a different candidate.
Other Brooklyn Democrats, however, expressed support for Hochul and former Speaker Adams, including state Sen. Andrew Gounardes, Attorney General Letitia James and Assemblymember Brian Cunningham, who had been in the running for the lieutenant governor ticket slot.
