EAST FLATBUSH – TWO SECURITY GUARDS at Kings County Hospital Center were arrested early Monday morning and charged with obstruction of governmental administration after a confrontation with police officers over entering a locked ward, the New York Post reports.
The dispute began after a police officer assigned to a prisoner undergoing psychiatric treatment called for help. When other officers arrived, security guard Kadeem Alfred allegedly blocked them from entering until receiving permission from his supervisor. Police then arrested Alfred over the delay, followed by the supervisor, Michael Kee, for allegedly attempting to interfere with the arrest. Both were given desk appearance tickets for later court dates.
The initial officer was unharmed in the incident.
“When a police officer calls for help, absolutely nothing should delay that help from getting there. Hospital personnel need to understand that and should make changes to ensure that this scenario doesn’t happen again,” Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry said in a statement.
