CROWN HEIGHTS — THE BROOKLYN CHILDREN’S MUSEUM on Friday announced a $49,500 grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. The grant will help fund BCM’s many community offerings, including its hands-on exhibits, festivals, school trips and programs that invite children to imagine, create and learn through play. BCM’s latest offering, Empire Skate of Mind, revives the spirit of the borough’s roller disco past — with a rooftop roller rink! — open until April 12, 2026.
BCM’s diverse cultural festivals celebrate an array of traditions, art and food. Up next is BCM’s Celebrate Kwanzaa, from Dec. 26 through Dec. 30. Other annual celebrations have recognized Eid al-Fitr, Holi, Lunar New Year, Día de los Muertos , Tu BiShvat and Black History Month.
“We are tremendously thankful to the New York State Council on the Arts for its generous and continued support,” Atiba T. Edwards, president and CEO of Brooklyn Children’s Museum, said in a release.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park. I continue to be amazed at the serene hideaways that the city offers in some of the busiest places — and, still, with an iconic view.”

ATLANTIC AVENUE — Exhausted shopper with cluster of bags and goods from mall at Boerum Place stops to look at huge construction site across the street. “Is that REALLY going to be a jail??” Her male companion is reassuring, “Nothing like Rikers … this is 21st Century.”
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Overheard in line at one of most popular pastry outlets on Montague Street: “Hope I can get them into a camp …” A mother with two pre-schoolers in tow was showing a friend the Dodge Y flyer for Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18.
