FORT HAMILTON — THE COMMUNITY IS INVITED TO JOIN U.S. ARMY GARRISON FORT HAMILTON for the installation’s bicentennial this Friday, June 13. This free, public celebration at The Bluffs on Fort Hamilton, marks the 200th birthday of the army base and the laying of its cornerstone, as well as the 250th birthday of the United States Army. The official program, starting at 6 p.m., will feature live musical performances, a fireworks display, and local vendors. The installation anticipates welcoming approximately 2,500 attendees from the Fort Hamilton community, neighbors, and the broader New York City area. This event aims to boost community morale while honoring the legacy and enduring influence of both Fort Hamilton and the Army on the city and the nation.
Fort Hamilton, in southwestern Brooklyn adjacent to the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge, is named after Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, and is the fourth-oldest installation in the United States Army, which was founded on June 14, 1775, a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed. The fort’s history dates back to June 11, 1825, when its cornerstone was laid. Construction was completed in 1831.
