STATEWIDE — THE STATE OF NEW YORK’S FIRST-EVER INFLATION REFUND CHECKS will be mailed to eligible residents this fall, with no need to apply or sign up, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday, May 14.
Inflation refund checks worth up to $400 will be sent during October and November to 8.2 million eligible households across New York state, 3.53 million of them in NYC’s five boroughs.
Eligible New Yorkers will have filed Form IT-201, New York State Resident Income Tax Return for Tax Year 2023, will not have been claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return and will have been below certain thresholds.
Joint tax filers with income up to $150,000 will receive a $400 check, while those with income over $150,000 but no greater than $300,000 will receive a $300 check. Single filers with income up to $75,000 will receive a $200 check while those with incomes over $75,000 but no greater than $150,000 will receive a $150 check.
Gov. Hochul secured and enacted this initiative in the FY 2026 State Budget. Brooklyn City Councilmember Simcha Felder (D-22/Borough Park) remarked, “More money in people’s pockets is always a good thing!”
