CITYWIDE – UNIONIZED DOCTORS AT several public New York City hospitals, including the former Coney Island Hospital, on Monday morning came to a tentative agreement on a new contract, averting a planned strike of nearly 1,000 doctors at the last minute, reports Politico. The new contract will include raises, bonuses and benefits aimed at attracting and retaining medical staff. The union, Doctors Council – SEIU, had been pushing for increased compensation and an end to what they described as dangerous, chronic understaffing.
“It’s because we love the work we do and stand by that mission that Doctors Council members united together like never before […] I am proud that this tentative agreement puts us on a path to enhance care – for our patients, our communities, and the dedicated doctors they entrust,” Doctors Council – SEIU president Frances Quee, M.D., said in a press release.
