The great borough of Brooklyn is offering multiple, fun events for people of all ages to kick off the weekend right!
On Friday, July 26, Lou Gallo will be performing at Putnam Triangle Plaza, located at Fulton Street and Grand Avenue. Part of the Free Kids Concert, the performance will take place from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Not in the mood to jam out to live music? Senator Kevin Parker will be sponsoring a Family Safety Day on Friday, July 26. Located at his office at 1300 Flatbush Avenue, the public event will take place from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
All weekend, Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy will be hosting games, activities, and art projects for children of all ages. The festivities will be held at Brooklyn Bridge Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 26-28.
This Friday, July 26, Councilmember Jumaane Williams and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn will be funding a tennis program with the New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL). Children ages 5-18 can attend the program, which is being held at IS 240K, 2500 Nostrand Avenue. This event will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 4 p.m.
Are you more of a history fanatic and would like to learn more about Brooklyn? Then join the Brooklyn Museum for a summer session that discusses the history of the Gowanus Canal. Taking place from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., the session will be held at the Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway.
The Brooklyn Children’s Museum, located at 145 Brooklyn Avenue, will be holding a free “Family Jam Series.” From 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m, DJ Kakez in the Café will be performing; from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. the Big Blocks Party will also be taking place; and from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be a BIG Collection.
From 6 p.m. to 9 pm, the “Book Launch and Exhibition” will be held at Pier 1 Brooklyn Bridge Park, 334 Furman Street. Come celebrate natural hair with Michael July, author of Afros: A Celebration of Natural Hair, on Friday, July 26.
Have you ever wanted to make your own soap from scratch? At the “Make Your Own Soap” class, you can learn to make your own soaps using a simple cold process method and materials from your pantry. All materials will be provided and the cost will be $40. The class will take place at Brooklyn Brainery Prospect Heights, 190 Underhill Avenue, from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m..
Want to spend your Friday night listening to some new up-and-coming bands? Come enjoy a free performance opening with Brown Bird and followed by Trampled By Turtles, an American band from Minnesota, along with another American folk punk playing band, The Devil Makes Three, in the Celebrate Brooklyn! series. The venue is Prospect Park Bandshell, located at 62 West Drive, New York, NY 11215. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m.
If you’re more interested in artwork, view the work of 33 artists, both from the United States and abroad this Friday. Each work is 12x12x12 inches or smaller. The venue is Trestle, located at 168 7th Street. Open to everyone, the art exhibition opens at 7 p.m. and concludes at 9 p.m.
At Cameo Gallery, 93 N. 6th Street, come out and listen to Tony Castles, Echoes Answer, and The Archive perform live. Tickets cost between $8 and $10. The event begins at 8 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m..
