BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A BLOCK IN BEDFORD-STUYVESANT at Putnam Avenue and Cleaver Street was officially co-named ODB Jones Way on Saturday in honor of the late Wu-Tang Clan co-founder Ol’ Dirty Bastard (Russell Tyrone Jones).
Councilmember Chi Ossé unveiled the new street sign with members of ODB’s family, who received a ceremonial copy. The rapper’s 1995 solo classic “Brooklyn Zoo” blasted from speakers during the event, and community members poured a little liquor onto the intersection from a 40 oz. bottle, according to Billboard.
In a video of the co-naming posted on TikTok by New York photographer Howard Weiss, ODB’s brother Ramsey Jones said, “I am very honored to be here because my grandmother’s house is on this block on Putnam Avenue, right next to where the mural is.”
