BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — SISTERS GABRIELLE AND DANIELLE Davenport will open BEM, a bookstore cafe, at 373 Macon St. this fall, according to Black Enterprise.
Featuring only Black-authored works with food themes, like Edna Lewis’s cookbook and Toni Morrison’s “Beloved,” the store builds on their 2021 online launch — developed through Brooklyn Public Library’s PowerUP program and supported by a $75,000 Kickstarter — aiming to celebrate Black Diaspora culinary heritage.
“There’s just so much energy around stories,” says Davenport. “We talk a lot about it being a place for discovery.”
