CITY HALL — NEW YORK CITY IS ‘ASSESSING’ the impacts of the Trump administration’s pause on funding federal programs across the nation, including those in New York City. “We are assessing the full reach of the administration’s announcement, as specific programs are not named in the memo,” Adams said in a statement Tuesday. “We are in touch with our federal counterparts as we continue to monitor this situation closely, and we will advocate firmly on behalf of New Yorkers whose lives are impacted by affected programs.” New York City, which pays some of the highest federal taxes in the country, has received an average of $11.8 billion in federal grants over each of the past five fiscal years, he noted.
The freeze is not only ‘illegal’ and ‘unconstitutional,’ but will disrupt education and health programs, child care, housing assistance, food stamps, disaster relief and other important programs, New York City Comptroller Brad Lander said Tuesday morning.
