FORT GREENE — RECONSTRUCTION OF BALLFIELDS at Commodore Barry Park begins on Monday, according to an announcement in the July 9 Community Board 2 newsletter.
The city Department of Parks and Recreation will begin reconstruction of the natural turf ballfields and build new sports lighting and a track around the ballfields in Commodore Barry Park. This area will remain closed for one calendar year. The east side will remain open and usable.
Procurement, or the process of acquiring goods, equipment and labor, was completed in June, and the projected completion is July 2027. The project has received a total of $20,616,000 from Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, the City Council, the mayor’s office and the state legislature.
The Parks Dept. website also shows another project within Commodore Barry Park: Whereas construction has begun on the ballfields specifically, the reconstruction of a multipurpose play area is still in the procurement stage. Projected funding is at least $10 million from the mayor’s office.
