Algerian dance workshop coming to Heights BPL
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — THE BROOKLYN HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY will host Algerian-American dance educator Esraa Warda on Thursday for a showcase of western Algerian dance styles, which include Medahatte, Raï and Alaoui, as well as a preview of an in-progress documentary showcasing her fieldwork in Algerian dance. The documentary preview will be followed by a dance workshop that tours attendants through the “movement vocabulary” and spirit of the region, as well as a live music performance. The event will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Brooklyn Heights Library.
Warda has previously performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk with the all-women band Bnat el Houariyat, of Marrakech.
