STATEWIDE — NEW YORK STATE ON THURSDAY ISSUED A BURN BAN that is effective the remainder of this month, according to an alert from Notify NYC. The ban, lasting until Saturday, Nov. 30 (Thanksgiving weekend), prohibits any kindling of outdoor fires including brush and debris disposal, camp fires and open fires used for cooking. The ban was expanded when weather forecasts showed an ongoing period of dry weather conditions expected statewide in the coming days and an increasing potential for rapidly-increasing wildfires. Rain is not forecast for New York until Thursday, Nov. 21. A Weather Channel map shows wildfires in several parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia.

Last weekend, two wildfires broke out in Prospect Park, near the woodland ravine and the LeFrak Center. Another wildfire broke out but was soon contained in Marine Park.
