Oxomoco, named after the Aztec goddess of the night, is set to open for dinner service today at 128 Greenpoint Ave. Chef Justin Bazdarich and his childhood friend Chris Walton co-own the spot. Their vision for the restaurant came after numerous trips to Mexico, where the duo became enamored with the cuisine and culture.
“Mexican cuisine naturally has many smoky elements to its flavor profile, so I wanted to vault this with the backbone of a wood-fired kitchen,” Bedford + Bowery reported.
The menu offers dishes that reflect the different regions of Mexico and their respective cuisines, such as the Yucatan-inspired albacore tuna taco with refried beans and salsa habanero. Another special is a Oaxacan-inspired crispy tortilla with refried beans, homemade quesillo and salsa pipicha.
The restaurant attempts to replicate a Mexico City style architecture and includes an outdoor patio.
The newest addition to Greenpoint serves dinner starting at 5.30 p.m. but will add brunch, lunch, and delivery service soon.
