BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — THE CENTER FOR BROOKLYN History continues its three part series, “Confronting Climate Change,” with an evening event on Wednesday on the science behind climate change.
For “The Science — Understanding a Changing Planet,” award-winning reporter Rebecca Hersher from NPR’s Climate Desk will be joined in conversation by New Yorker staff writer Elizabeth Kolbert and climate scientist Dr. Gavin Schmidt. They will discuss the realities of global warming, one of the most urgent issues of our time, and its impacts on ecosystems and humans.
Kolbert will bring her expertise translating complex scientific concepts into digestible stories, including for her recently published collection of essays, “Life on a Little-Known Planet.” Schmidt will offer an authoritative scientific voice, drawing on his years of leadership in organizations such as NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The third event in the series, “Solutions — From Innovation to Action,” will take place on June 8 at the Center for Brooklyn History and feature climate scholars, lawyers, scientists and adaptation experts. More information and reservations can be found on the Center for Brooklyn History website.
