
GRAVESEND AND HOWARD BEACH, QUEENS — MORE THAN 100 FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS WERE RECOGNIZED at two events that Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens held during Volunteer Appreciation Month in April. Catholic Charities’ Office of Mission’s Volunteer Services hosted two luncheons, one in Brooklyn and one in Queens.
More than 50 Brooklyn volunteers were feted April 17 at a communal meal hosted at the Church of Sts. Simon and Jude Church, in Gravesend. Carol Tolano, a parishioner at the Church of the Holy Spirit, was honored for her ongoing commitment and service. Meanwhile, more than 80 dedicated volunteers gathered at the Catholic Charities Msgr. Pfeiffer Resource Center in Howard Beach, Queens for a celebratory meal and raffles.
Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens staff operate and support a network of 60 community-based and parish-based emergency food pantries across Brooklyn and Queens. These pantries provide a wide range of shelf-stable essentials like canned goods and grains, as well as fresh meats and vegetables.
Last year, more than 400 volunteers helped Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens distribute almost five million meals to over 277,000 individuals across the social service group’s food pantry network.
