COLOGNE — Nature’s delight — beaks nearly meet for a heartfelt moment: Two flamingos are shown at the zoo in Germany, on a warm and sunny Thursday, April 9, 2026.
Flamingo mating and breeding is largely a complex group activity in which the birds show off their strengths to attract a mate.
Nest-building is shared by both male and female mates, as is incubating the eggs and feeding the hatchlings.
AUGUSTA — All the fans in the world can’t replace this one: Max Homa, right, celebrates a putt by his son, Cam Andrew, on the eighth hole during the Par 3 contest ahead of the Masters golf tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Georgia.
When Augusta National Chairman Clifford Roberts first conceived the idea of the Par 3, he was met with some resistance from club membership. However, the Par 3 soon became a cherished tradition.
AUGUSTA — Damn good flexibility for a 90-year-old: Gary Player kicks his leg in the air after hitting the ceremonial tee shot on the first hole during the first round of the Masters golf tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club, Thursday.

INDONESIA — The jellyfish here need an NIMBY org to properly handle waste management: Plastic waste floats alongside jellyfish at the Blue Magic dive site in Raja Ampat, Sunday, March 8, 2026.
Raja Ampat, one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems on Earth, has made significant strides, earning it a reputation as a global model for ocean conservation.
However, new mining prospects, deforestation and increased tourism are introducing threats that could undermine decades of recovery.
ANN ARBOR — The modern age requires clever means to acquire votes — like pulling from a famous streamer’s dedicated audience: Streamer Hasan Piker, left, and Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive candidate in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Michigan, center right, take a selfie with young fans following a campaign event, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the University of Michigan.

His campaign platform strongly emphasizes building a healthcare system from which all Americans can benefit.
BUDAPEST — End of a dubious mission, campaigning for an anti-democracy leader on the taxpayers’ tab? Vice President JD Vance speaks to reporters at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Hungary, Wednesday, before boarding Air Force Two to return to Washington.
Hungarian voters go to the polls on Sunday, April 12. As of Tuesday, Orban was trailing in his country’s polls.

LOS ANGELES — A grieving mother, a grievous offense finally punished: Suzanne Morrison, mother of Matthew Perry, leaves the court, Wednesday, after a federal judge handed down a 15-year prison sentence to Jasveen Sangha, who pleaded guilty to selling “Friends” star Matthew Perry the ketamine that killed him in a 2023 overdose.
Examiners listed drowning as a secondary cause of death for Perry, who was found in his hot tub.
The 54-year-old actor had played Chandler Bing on NBC’s “Friends” in the 1990s and 2000s, becoming one of the biggest television stars of the era.
