
NEW YORK STATE — A GRAND JURY indicted former New York Police Department Officer Kevin Richmond, 44, of Elmsford, on a charge of second-degree vehicular manslaughter in the death of motorcyclist Nidia Nieves, Attorney General Letitia James announced April 1.
Richmond, who was off duty at the time, allegedly struck Nieves while driving intoxicated on I-87 in Cornwall, Orange County, shortly after midnight on July 27, 2023. Nieves was thrown from her motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. Richmond also faces two misdemeanor DWI counts.
He was arraigned April 1 before Judge Craig Brown in Orange County Court and released on $40,000 bond with a $20,000 cash alternative.
Richmond is due back in court May 1. The top charge carries a maximum sentence of two and one-third to seven years.
