BAY RIDGE — A STAPLES STORE on Fifth Avenue could be replaced with an 11-story mixed-use development under a rezoning application filed this week with the city Department of City Planning, according to Crain’s New York Business.
Brooklyn-based BWH Group, led by managing principal Daniel Grinshteyn, is seeking to rezone part of Fifth Avenue near 9305 Fifth Ave., between 92nd and 94th streets, to allow roughly 290 apartments on a 39,000-square-foot site currently occupied by a Staples and surface parking. The firm bought the property in 2014 for $17 million.
Plans call for about 233,000 square feet of development, including roughly 220,000 square feet of residential space, 12,000 square feet of commercial space and 1,117 square feet of community facility space.
About 30% of the units — 87 apartments — would be affordable to households earning below 80% of area median income. The proposal also includes a 75-car cellar garage and an interior courtyard. The application now enters the city’s land-use review process.
