CITYWIDE — ELECTED OFFICIALS including Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Attorney General Letitia James, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Comptroller Mark Levine, numerous councilmembers and others stood with nurses Monday as 15,000 members of the New York State Nurses Association went on strike at three private hospital systems across New York City.
“Nurses put their lives on the line every day to keep New Yorkers healthy. They should never be forced to choose between their own safety, their patients’ well-being and a fair contract,” James said in a statement.
Mamdani and Williams were among those who joined the NYSNA picket line Monday morning outside of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia in Washington Heights.
