FLATBUSH — MAYOR ZOHRAN MAMDANI visited Brooklyn College on Jan. 9 to distribute 1,500 free tickets to performances at Under the Radar festival, one of the nation’s largest theater showcases.
According to the New York Times, 12 producers and presenters agreed to participate in the mayor’s giveaway, with some adding extra performances to accommodate.
In a statement, Mamdani said the arts are too often treated as a luxury rather than a public good and praised Under the Radar for sharing performances citywide and expanding access to live theater.
The festival runs through Jan. 25. New Yorkers can also access the free tickets on a first-come basis online at UTRfest.org/under-the-radar-for-all while supplies last.
The event underscores the administration’s broader effort to make arts programming more accessible across the five boroughs.
