STATEWIDE — NEW YORK CITY, New York state and several other Northeastern states on Thursday formally announced the formation of a voluntary regional coalition of public health agencies and leaders, who will coordinate to share resources and expertise, respond to public health threats, strengthen regional readiness and trust in public health and promote evidence-based public health and science-based medicine, according to a press release.
The Northeast Public Health Collaborative, which was informally established several months ago, held its first in-person meeting in Rhode Island in August. The collaborative has already formed working groups and shared planning across multiple disciplines, including emergency preparedness and response, vaccine recommendations and purchasing, data collection and analysis, infectious disease, epidemiology and laboratory capacity and services.
The collaborative has so far worked together on precautions for health care workers during the respiratory virus season, emergency preparedness for three FIFA World Cup host cities, exploring public health workforce pipeline activities and coordinating state lab services.
Members may choose to participate in or adapt those specific initiatives consistent with a given locality’s particular needs, values, objectives and statutory or regulatory requirements.
