
CITYWIDE — THE NEW YORK BLOOD CENTER (NYBC) is encouraging New Yorkers to donate blood or volunteer at a local community blood drive in memory of those who lost their lives on 9/11. NYBC is hosting a day of service to honor those who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks by giving back to the community. New Yorkers are encouraged to donate blood, volunteer at a blood drive or sign up to host a blood drive at various locations across the region
Sept. 11 is recognized annually as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, during which communities across New York pay tribute to the victims of the 9/11 attacks through lifesaving blood donations. Hospitals and patients rely upon a steady flow of volunteer donors, NYBC operates 20 area donor centers and hosts blood drives across the region every day. Blood donors can find the nearest donor center or drive. NYBC will also host the drives at several Brooklyn locations, including the Dodge YMCA, 225 Atlantic Ave. (11 a.m.-5 p.m.); NYC College of Technology on Jay St., (11:30-5:30 p.m.); and the Prospect Park YMCA, 361 15th St. (1-7 p.m.)
One blood donation can save up to three lives.
