CITYWIDE — THE REMAINS OF THREE MORE VICTIMS OF THE SEPT. 11, 2001, TERROR ATTACKS have been identified, using advanced DNA technology, CBS reported on Thursday, Aug. 7. The announcement came from Mayor Eric Adams and Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jason Graham almost 24 years after the coordinated attacks involving terrorist flying planes into each of the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers and the Pentagon. The newly identified victims were Ryan Fitzgerald of Floral Park, Barbara Keating of California and a woman whose identity was not released. Graham told CBS News that “the promise of science” and “sustained outreach” in identifying victims can help bring closure to families who grieved the loss of loved ones during the attacks.
The total number of identified victims is now at 1,653, leaving about 1,100 more persons to be identified. The attack on the World Trade Center claimed 2,753 people, including those on the planes, in the towers and first-responders.
