EAST WILLIAMSBURG — AVANT GARDNER, parent company of the infamous and currently-shuttered East Williamsburg club Brooklyn Mirage, has filed for bankruptcy, according to Bloomberg and numerous other news outlets. According to the company’s statement on social media, the Great Hall and Kings Hall event venues will remain open during Chapter 11, but the Brooklyn Mirage won’t reopen this year. BKMAG had reported in July that Chairperson Gary Richards, aka Destructo, was overheard saying that finding a buyer for the company is “impossible right now,” amid 10 weeks of canceled or relocated shows.
As the Brooklyn Eagle reported in 2017, “The venue has lived up to its name as a mirage over the years, appearing and disappearing unexpectedly for a host of reasons.”
