DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — EMERGENCY PERSONNEL WILL OPERATE near Cadman Plaza Park on Thursday evening, but it will be part of a CERT training exercise.
As part of a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training class, a disaster simulation exercise will be conducted from approximately 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 26 at Cadman Plaza East and Red Cross Place. Commuters and locals should expect to see FDNY and NYPD personnel in action.
CERT trainees learn basic response skills to interact with and support first responders and the public during emergencies. For example, they might escort residents of evacuated buildings to retrieve personal belongings, help with emergency food and supply distribution, staff assistance centers and aid in missing person searches, among other tasks.
Potential volunteers wishing to learn more about CERT may visit NYC.gov/CERT.
