BROOKLYN NAVY YARD — SEEKING AN ACADEMIC PARTNER to find solutions to real-world problems, The Brooklyn Navy Yard on Thursday released a Request for Expressions of Interest from higher-education institutions seeking to lease, develop and operate 20,000 square feet of space at its Research Yard, to create collaboration opportunities between students, entrepreneurs and faculty that generate groundbreaking research, identify solutions and prototype problem-solving products.
Established in 2023, in partnership with the Pratt Institute and the City University of New York’s City College of Technology, the Research Yard is the Navy Yard’s on-site applied research and learning facility. Development of the Research Yard was divided into two phases. Phase I included the build out of 21,000 square feet of space that includes fabrication workshops (digital, woodworking and metalwork), robotics equipment, product galleries, student workspaces, conference rooms, among other amenities. BNYDC is now seeking a new academic partner to lease, develop and operate Phase II of the Research Yard, which must focus programming, facilities and operations centered on applied research and learning around innovative and sustainable solutions to urgent problems that people living in urban environments face, and supporting the commercialization pathway of viable products and solutions.
The applied research could be on climate resiliency, artificial intelligence, smart cities, among other developments.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park. I continue to be amazed at the serene hideaways that the city offers in some of the busiest places — and, still, with an iconic view.”

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — ‘A miracle that no one was killed …’ That’s what neighbors are saying about the collapse of the Hotel St. George marquee.
