Magistrate Judge Sanket Bulsara is on his way for a promotion after he was recommended last week by Sen. Charles Schumer for the position of district judge at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
The recommendation has been followed by President Joe Biden’s nomination of Judge Bulsara for the esteemed judgeship.
Judge Bulsara, renowned for his extensive legal expertise and public service, is currently serving as a magistrate judge in the Eastern District of New York. His legal acumen spans various domains, including securities, contract, bankruptcy, and regulatory matters. Magistrate Bulsara has also been instrumental in representing marginalized groups such as the incarcerated, domestic violence victims and individuals on death row in pro bono cases.
“Sanket Bulsara is first-rate legal mind and a dedicated, talented public servant, who is currently serving as a magistrate judge in the Eastern District of New York,” Sen. Schumer said. “Judge Bulsara was general counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he worked to protect investors and the country’s financial markets. He is an expert in securities, contract, bankruptcy and regulatory matters, but his experience also extends to representing the incarcerated, victims of domestic violence and individuals on death row in pro bono cases.”
Senator Schumer lauded Bulsara’s diverse professional background, which includes clerking for Hon. John G. Koeltl on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, acting as general counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission and maintaining a broad-based, trial-centered legal practice.
“Judge Bulsara has a broad range of experiences, from clerking for Hon. John G. Koeltl on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to serving as acting general counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission and developing a broad-based, trial-centered practice to his current service as a magistrate judge in the Eastern District,” Schumer said. “This vast range of invaluable experiences will serve him well as a United States District Judge for the Eastern District of New York.”
Bulsara was born in the Bronx to immigrant parents. His father, an engineer for the City of New York, and his mother, a dedicated nurse, instilled in him the values of hard work and service that he has credited to helping his legal career.
