A temporary restraining order has been issued halting the sale of Long Island College Hospital until September 12, due to buyer Fortis Property Group and NYU Langone Medical Center reportedly failing to re-hire laid-off nurses, as required.
The restraining order was issued by Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Laura Jacobson following a lawsuit by the New York State Nurses Association.
“It is unconscionable for NYU to punish LICH nurses for being outspoken patient advocates,” said NYSNA Executive Director Jill Furillo.
According to papers filed with the state Health Department, the new ER is estimated to treat only about one fourth the number of patients that LICH did in 2012.
Another recent hiccup saw affordable housing developer L+M Development Partners back out of the project in early August.
